  • January 11, 2008 – ICON Announces its' 2008 Justice Initiatives
    INDIANAPOLIS — A new session of Indiana's legislature convened on January 8th. For many of us, the big question is whether legislators will block a Constitutional Amendment that would prohibit same-gender marriage and deny same-gender families equal protection under the law. The Amendment was initially approved in the 2005 legislative session, but cannot go forward to Hoosier voters unless it is ratified again in the 2008 legislative session.   • April 9, 2007 – Proposed hate crimes legislation defeated by House
    INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana House of Representatives has defeated an amendment to SB 45 by a vote of 46 to 50 that would have revived hate crimes legislation this session. Rep. Greg Porter (D-Indianapolis) proposed the language amendment earlier on Monday, April 9. Indiana Equality (IE) is very grateful for Rep. Porter's commitment to this important legislation.   • March 29, 2007 – Statewide Religious Coalition Speaks Out Against SJR-7
    INDIANAPOLIS — The Interfaith Coalition on Nondiscrimination (ICON) today spoke out against Senate Joint Resolution 7 (SJR-7) in a letter to the Indiana General Assembly. The letter, which is signed by 130 Indiana clergy, leaders of faith communities, and other religious professionals, opens with, "Our backgrounds and those of the people we serve vary widely. Our views on marriage differ. But we speak with one voice to oppose amending the Indiana Constitution to define marriage." | READ MORE |
  • August 8, 2006 – ICON welcomes the Plymouth Congregational Church of Fort Wayne and the Unitarian Universalist Church of Bloomington as our newest congregation members. ICON is a membership organization that welcomes both individuals and congregations as members. Voting control of ICON is vested exclusively in its member congregations, which now consists of fifteen congregations.

  • May 17 – Press Conference at the Indiana Statehouse
    On May 17th Indiana Equality announced the results survey the attitudes of Indiana citizens on issues facing lesbian and gay Hoosiers at the statehouse. In the poll, Indiana residents were found to overwhelmingly support basic human rights for gay and lesbian citizens. Majorities favored equality for gay and lesbian Hoosiers in employment, housing, and public accommodations, often by very significant margins.
